Khuzdar: Four members of the Levies Force were killed in an armed clash with unidentified assailants late Friday night at the Samand check post in the Nall area of Khuzdar district, Balochistan.
Deputy Commissioner of Khuzdar, Yasir Dashti, confirmed the incident and the deaths of the four Levies personnel. According to a Levies official stationed in Nall, the attack occurred while the personnel were on duty at a checkpoint along the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) route.
The official claimed that the assailants approached the checkpoint and demanded that the officers surrender their weapons. However, the Levies personnel resisted, leading to an armed confrontation in which all four were killed.
The deceased have been identified as Khuda Bakhsh, Ejaz Ahmed, Muhammad Ali, and Maqbool. Their bodies were transferred to a hospital for post-mortem examination.
This is the deadliest attack on the Levies Force in 2025 so far, amid a spike in violence across Balochistan. In recent months, several similar attacks have been reported on Levies checkpoints not only in Khuzdar and neighboring Kalat district but also in other parts of the province.
The insurgency in Balochistan, which began during the tenure of former President Pervez Musharraf, has primarily targeted federal security forces. However, since last year, there has been a notable increase in attacks on local security forces, including the police and Levies, with incidents involving the looting of weapons from checkpoints.
In a separate incident prior to the Khuzdar attack, unidentified gunmen killed a balloon vendor from the Hindu community in Kharan district. Police official Munir Ahmed stated that the victim was targeted in the vegetable market area. He was identified as Lal Das, originally from Jaffarabad district, which borders Sindh.
